The wide open spaces and blue skies combined with

captures the heart of all who visit the Cariboo Chilcotin Coast. The
region, born in the gold rush, was soon bustling with miners and cowboys
all looking for a bit of excitement. Explore park's, mountaintops ,
unspoiled waterfalls and lakes, and some of the best fishing rivers in
the world. Capture wildlife in their element and if your luckey return
home with photos of caribou, grizzly bears, black bears, and countless
birds. Discover nature's creative side when you come across the Rainbow
Mountains, a fusion of vibrant reds, yellows, and purples. The Area base
camp for this leg of our journey is on a small ranch in Clinton.

In the days of the gold rush the village of Clinton was known as 47 Mile
House, marking its distance from Mile 0 in Lillooet. Following
completion of the Cariboo Wagon Trail, it was renamed in honour of Henry
Clinton, who served as the Colonial Secretary during that time. The
village revels in the natural beauty that encases it and the rich
history that created it. Explore Clinton through its 60 km (37 mi.) of
marked hiking and mountain biking trails. Don’t forget to pack your
camera.
Discover Painted Chasm in Chasm Provincial Park, 15 km (9 mi.) north
of Clinton. This awe-inspiring site is thousands of years old and was
created by glacier melt waters. The chasm, which is 1.5 km long and 120
m (394 ft.) deep, is Mother Nature's canvas with its breathtaking
display of pink and orange rocks. Located in the heart of the village
and formerly used as a courthouse by Sir Begbie, “the hanging-judge,”
the Clinton Museum takes you back in time through the “trials” and
tribulations of pioneer living. The building that houses the museum,
built in 1892, has been used as both a schoolhouse and a courthouse in
the past, and was constructed from locally hand-made bricks.
